Our most asked question when it comes to extensions is "how often do you need to get them maintained?". This is an important factor to take in consideration, so we've explained all you need to know before you take the plunge into getting extensions.
Let’s talk hair extensions and maintenance
Fitting
When you have micro ring hair extensions fitted, they are placed on your hair not “in” your hair. Much like contact lenses hair extensions are placed onto sections of your hair, comfortably and discretely to achieve extra thickness or extra length.
Micro ring hair extensions are easily applied and removed without any hassle or discomfort, and you will be able to re-create your favourite hair styles that you have always wanted to have or have had enjoyed wearing previously.
Once your hair extensions have been applied by one of our specialists, we will go through all the correct steps of aftercare including recommended products, washing your new hair and how to style them to yourself at home.
When to get a maintenance
We recommend you have your extensions maintained every 8-10 weeks. This is to ensure the safety of your scalp and natural hair and to also maintain the condition of your extensions, so you get the best duration possible out of your hair.
What happens when your hair grows?
When your hair grows your hair extensions will move down your scalp and the natural hair that you would shed gets trapped in the micro ring, this can sometimes wrap around itself and create “knots” however, do not be alarmed this is completely normal and healthy. When you come for your maintenance one of our hair extension specialists will remove your hair extensions, comb out the shedding and place your hair extensions back to their original place closer to your scalp. This is a painless process, and your hair will feel fresh and brand new again.
Boosting your hair
After a while of having your hair, you may feel like you want more length or thickness. Or you might want to change up your colour. If the change you require isn’t too dramatic and your existing hair is in good condition after following our aftercare advice, we can boost the hair at the fraction of the cost of buying a new set.
How do we do it?
If you are thinking about getting a booster, our specialists will advise on the amount of hair you will require to create your chosen outcome which we can discuss on your maintenance appointment. We will then colour match/add the colours you require, and hand blend each individual extension to create your bespoke shade. Our specialists will talk you through every step of the process, making sure you are happy with your colour and the amount of length/thickness added to your extensions.
How long does a Booster take?
Unless you are having a fresh new set of extensions, adding a booster will take the same amount of time as your regular maintenance appointment usually does. This gives you the flexibility to decide on the day of your maintenance appointment whether or not it’s time to change up your style.
Why Do we cut your extensions?
This isn’t always required when you come in for your maintenance, and we won't force you to cut your extensions. However, sometimes we may advise that you need to a cut with your appointment. Why? Well, there’s a few reasons, maybe you want to move your extensions around (i.e., take certain rows lower or higher) which results in your extensions being uneven. Maybe you’ve had a booster and require more length taken off and shape adding or maybe your natural hair has outgrown your extensions and it’s time for a trim.
